As the time passed,  she realized sometimes the rain arrived too late and the frost earlier than expected.  Yet the flowers didn’t seem to take notice.  They still showed up, grew a bit, bloomed and left traces of themselves behind for the future.  Looking past the flowers to the field beyond and the worn path made by years of her footsteps, she knew this to be true.
